Polly Gordon Walk
Carl Schurz Park, New York City
This shady garden borders Polly Gordon Walk, a path that leads from the park's busiest entrance past the playground towards the East River Promenade.
The design goal was to create an attractive space that provided a sense of immediate escape from the surrounding urban neighborhood.
Plant selections include natives and hardy adapted species that attract birds and pollinators. Because little sunlight reaches this area, the design focuses on interesting foliage plants with various forms and textures. Pops of seasonal color draw attention to different parts of the garden throughout the year.
